AUT: "60 Minutes II" on anarchists in Seattle
- Subject: AUT: "60 Minutes II" on anarchists in Seattle
- From: Gerald Levy <glevy@xxxxxxxxx>

Did anyone else watch this program last night?
The segment (a little less than 20 minutes in length) seemed to have two
messages:
1) a small group of militant anarchists (mainly from Eugene, Oregon) were
largely responsible for all of the "violence" in Seattle and that this was
their plan all along.
2) While there were certain "excesses" committed by the Seattle PD (and
captured on videotape by anarchists [a fair amount of which was played
during the show]), the "anarchists" were vegetarian, eccentric, *dangerous
nuts*.
What did others think of the coverage?
What is really dangerous, though, might be that this is the beginning of
a media campaign that targets anarchists with the purpose of preparing
the public for a law-and-order get tough (i.e. physically assault) and
arrest those un-patriotic "brats". Noteworthy in this regard was the
desire by "60 Minutes" to assert an affinity between Ted K (the
"Unabomber") and the anarchists from Eugene.
