Michael,
i am sorry if we had a misunderstanding but my remark about the group
"homophobes for sweatshops" was meant as sarcasm attacking homophobia.
there is really no such group. the group that was calling us faggots were
clearly ignorant fuckers. i meant to imply that anyone capable of
homophobia might also be capable of being in favor of sweatshops(FOR
sweatshops). the group that i am involved with at cmu believes that most
forms of oppression have the culture of corporate exploitation to blame at
least in part.
i hope this clears things up. also, your comment about the "MBA wanna be's"
is noted. we feel that schools like ours where there is a huge corporate
structure are places where pressure around such issues is even more
critical. anyone feel free to email me back if you'd like.
peace,
cliff

Hey all,
I just wanted to let you guys know that a handful of us were out on on
forbes yesterday protesting WTO corporate exploitation and the continued
detention of hundreds of political prisoners in the wake of the battle in
seattle.
We had a seriously kickass time. We were trying to engage the community to
get some dialogue going about this and warn people that the media is not an
unbiased communicator of information(the media are corporations and profit
when the companies that pay huge sums to advertise succeed. Everyone knows
this so why is it so hard to understand that there is censorship going on
regarding the issue of WTO/corporations?(or in general). People were
honking and waving as they drove by and we had people across the street (in
front of the O)yelling about how it was too late, "the bomb" was going to
drop in less than a month. The megaphone siren woke up a bunch of freshmen
in the pitt dorms and this one group started calling us "faggots." They
were with a group called homophobes for sweatshops, very interesting.
Anyway, the protest was the highlight of my weekend and you all who didn't
attend missed a real kickass time where some serious local and global
issues got dealt with. It would be nice to do that every saturday.
peace,
cliff
