Dear Comrade:
I am republishing Harry Cleaver?s _Reading Capital Politically_, which has
now been out of print for perhaps a decade or more. A continual stream of
references to it, recommendations that it should be read and queries from
people eager to get their hands on a copy and my own opinion that it remains
an important book all suggest that reprinting it is long overdue.
I am (under the moniker AntiTheses) publishing the book jointly with AK
Press, which will guarantee distribution throughout the UK and the US
through their distribution deals (the downside of this is the distributors
take a 60--70% cut). The book is being redesigned and typeset and will be
printed by Calverts Press in London, a workers? co-op with long-standing
links with the socialist/communist/ revolutionary movement. Harry is writing
a new Preface.
I am looking for some help. Printing two thousand copies will cost around
£3,500 ($5,000), which has to be paid upfront. I expect to recoup all of
this money: half within a year or so, but the remainder perhaps not for a
decade. I am therefore requesting both short-term loans and long-term loans
or donations. Another way of helping financially is to give me money now (or
when I need it, just before printing) in exchange for books.Other assistance
is also important, of course --- publicise the book, persuade your library
to buy it, or take copies to sell (at little more than cost price).
If you can help in other ways I?ve not thought of then let me know. I intend
to acknowledge those people and groups who help get the book republished: if
you don?t want your name listed then please say so.I look forward to hearing
from you.
Best wishes
David Harvie
