                                         Melbourne uni building smeared in
protest over Indonesia
                                         links

                                         Melbourne University's
administration building has been covered
                                         in red paint in a protest over the
university's links to the
                                         Indonesian military.

                                         About 300 students smeared the
word "shame" on the building,
                                         while demanding the proposed
private campus scrap its strategic
                                         studies course for military
officers, including Indonesians.

                                         The Student Union's Allyson Hose
told protesters not to give up
                                         until their demands are met.

                                         "I think we want to say to your
university here that we demand
                                         that you stop this course
immediately, that you cancel your
                                         contract with the Australian
military and stop training both
                                         Australian killers and Indonesian
military who are killing people
                                         in East Timor," she said.
