Dear Abu, Nestor, Andy, et al .

The material evidence of nat-lib movements post  WW1
being recuperated into the artillery of capital, local and
allied to  one bunch of metro imperialist states is obvious.
>From the early  CI  parties of backing   Ataturk in Turkey ,
 Chaing kai-shek in China , Caballero  in Spain,  etc, the
workers movements and parties were drowned in blood
beacuse these national bourgeois recognized their own class
interests and future were firstly bound up  with disciplining the
labor force to waged slavery , austerity  so as to compete
in the world market and make lucrative alliances with
the  big imperialists themselves to draw in needed capital
and gain markets for themselves .

(It should be noted for those who like to  take straw men
a la Euro- chauvinists a la Bernstein , Henderson, etc to tar their
opponents as being influenced by their ideas   that the greatest
opponents to Lenin's views on nat-lib in the CI in 1919-21  were
Sultan Zadeh  (Iranian CP) and M. Roy (Indian CP) whose views
are close to the ones I have put forward for the Communist-left here.
Also I reiterate my point that Lenin  stated clearly  in the 2nd CI
congress
that   his  victorious position should be taken up  again at a  future
date).


Later the situation of nat-libbed regimes /movements
facing radicalized toilers meant that many of them donned
a "socialist' or 'marxist-leninist' mask, but the end result was the
same ,  the nat-lib champions  are stuck backing  outfits
like UNITA in Angola vs. MPLA  vs. FNLA  trying to 'pick a side'.
Each national-lib front  is backed up by one imperialist power or
another and in their service/orbit .

Today  you get some nat-libbers cheering  for the KLA in the Balkans/
Kosovo  even  though the evidence is overwhelming that the KLA is a
creature of German and US imperialism.
This is not  to back the Milosevic state cap regime but  only
to show that all forces governing there are rabidly anti-worker as they
crush
working class movements and actions , in the service of being
'patriotic' and "for our nation", i.e for the ruling class interests .

In Bosnia recently  , all the nat-libbers there practiced ethnic cleansing
too.
Croatian, Bosnian and Serb nat libbers at the behest of the bourg.
nationalist platform/interest. They are backed by one imperialist power or
another   &  wrecked all proletarian unity .
Today even Madeline Albrights  and Bill Clinton's  speeches  are laced
 with paens to the  the masses  'rights to determine their own  self
detrrmination " and "national freedom" . Some here think the masses
can out-smart the bourgeois using a bourgeois programme and ideology
to forward workers class interests.
So far, the track record for this looks none too good.

In Africa, much of the  continent has gone thru a blaze of nat-libbing .
Now many of these 'freedom fighter'   regimes are at each others throats,
Some backed by  French, some backed by British, some backed
by China, some backed by US  imperialism, etc. Zimbabwe  and
South Africa,etc  can be wracked with the AIDS plague, mass
impoverishment  of their toiling millions who live in hovels and
cant even get potable water,  but that won't stop the nat libbers from
plunging
conscripted  forces and monies into the  Congolese war, because they too
have joined the imperialist scrambles for loot , raw materials , diamonds,
 copper, gold , manganese  etc.


Nat-libbing today  no doubt also gets new meaning for its champions
in Namibia where SWAPO was granted state power by the UN in 1990
 and today one of its regions, Caprivi , A CLA - thats "Caprivi Liberation
Army"
has been set up by  dissatisfied tribal  Royalty in Zambia and
financed by South  African businessmen.  This outfit  also toots
the horn of "self-determination' and "national liberation". The CLA
 only epitomizes the the bankruptcy  of  tailing the national bourgeois
programme .

Lastly  those who are backing the nat-nibbing here by means of
a "Three Worlds Analysis" here are really sinking in Maoist political
quicksand.  The Maoists in China developed this theory as a "left"
nationalist    ideological cover  to pave the way for Mao's open
alliance with US and other Western imperialists in the early  70s.
Even many  Maoists worldwide  were shocked when they saw what
 this meant in practice. Using the "Three Worlds Theory" China persued its
own national interests and tried to unite not only with fake
'nationalist  socialist' regimes , but now this was extented to alliance
 with the most reactionary  national bourgeoisie regimes in the peripheral
countries as well, the Shah in Iran,  Bhutto in Pakistan, Quaboos in
Oman , Pinochet in Chile. Mobutu in Zaire , etc et al.

>From there it was a diplomatic note and a few ping pong matches
away from Maoist  alliances and support  for such regimes /capital as the
regime of Nixon in the USA, the parties of Strauss in (then Federal
Germany), etc.. The Chinese national bourgeois then were defending THEIR
class interests, ie those of state capitalist  system  and they knew the
real class  meaning of "Three Worldsism" -as  did Nixon and Strauss!

This is but the logical result of the anti -proletarian
ideologies/programmes
a la  national -libbing (in this epoch) . It is worse when draped  in
'marxist '
garb, is it not?.  And i think it is disingenuous or  worse to then  find
some
illusory  Chinese Wall (pardon the pun)  that promotes politics , ideology
,
and culture too as detatched from the social/economic systems  existing
and in contention.  This method is not materialist dialectics but almost
pure idealism.

Nat-libbing  had some of its most militant  pseudo-marxist form  in Maoism
and its "Three-worldist'   arguments/ideology .  What  "three worldists"
end up
promoting  is a cover for the very  vulgar " economist" interests not only
of slick and
aspiring 'populist' national bourgeois in peripheral countries, but  also
its progenitors that paved the way for the Chinese state- capitalist regime
 today.

All the  false bravado aside, lets  just look at the track record.

This was a  sharp &  needed debate!
