Hi Marc
Marc:One might
have thought that a move away from murderous armed struggle, in pursuit=20
of the forced incorporation of one million British protestants in a
united Ireland, would be welcomed.=20
George: Your above comment contains the suggestion that all armed =
struggle is murderous. The use of the word "murderous" may be, in some =
respects a woolly term. On the other hand it can carry an abstract =
morality within it that suggests, in this case, that all armed struggle =
involving killing is absolutely wrong. Your use of the phrase "murderous =
armed struggle" would seem to suggest that all armed struggle is =
murderous and thereby morally wrong. I must say that I cannot share such =
moral abstractions or prescriptions. Armed struggle can be a valid and =
necessary form of class struggle.
Furthermore you entirely misunderstand the entire character of Karl's =
valuable piece on the IRA. He never suggested that only a few people =
are anti-imperialist. He never suggested that the "Catholic" masses were =
pro-imperialist when they successfully defended themselves in the Derry =
against the Loyalist attack on them. He never suggested that the working =
class in Russia was pro-imperialist when it confronted the state on the =
streets in 1017. He never suggested that they were pro-imperialist when =
they formed factory committees and Soviets. Indeed in these situations =
they were clearly anti-imperialist.
Pleas Marc dont distort what Karl wrote. Be serious!
Warm regards
George Pennefather
