AUT: 2nd American Encuentro Webpage goint up
- Subject: AUT: 2nd American Encuentro Webpage goint up

Folks: Some months back we received an elegant invitation to a 2nd
American Encuentro (1st was in Chiapas in Spring 1996) but then nothing
more since. Now the EZLN has publically endorsed this conference and put
out its own call. So it looks like its really going to happen.
Therefore, I propose that we begin now to prepare for this event in two
ways. First, and most practically, think about how to get the funds to go
--Brazil is a long ways to travel for many of us, and second, as with the
2nd Intercontinental Encounter in Spain in 1997, this is an occasion to
reexamine the phenomena and discussions of earlier Encounters, to learn
from them and pick up, at least to some degree, where they left off. To
facilitate this process of reexamination and preparation, I will put up a
website on the 2nd American Encounter that will include on the one hand,
material about it as it appears and on the other pointers to materials
already on the web from the earlier encounters. To this I propose to add a
web forum where people can discuss plans for and ideas for the December
meetings in Belem.
Therefore, I suggest two things: that you check the document of links
called "Zapatistas in Cyberspace" to see if it is missing any links to
earlier encounter materials and let me know if it is and second that you
think to send to me any papers you may prepare for the 2nd Encounter and
would like those going to be able to read and think about, and even react
to before they go. There is no reason discussions cannot commence now. I
will have the bare bones of the page up in a day or so and will post the
URL here at that time.
Any other ideas about how we can begin to prepare/build for the encounter
would be welcome, on this list, or on the forthcoming web forum.
See you on the web and then in Belem.
Harry
P.S. that remembers to give you mention that "Zapatistas in Cyberspace" is
on the Chiapas95 website whose url is given below.
