MILITARY TWICE ENTERS THE AGUASCALIENTES OF LA REALIDAD ROAD
OBSERVERS REPORT
October 27, 1998
LA REALIDAD, CHIAPAS
10:00 AM

This morning when the convoys of soldiers was passing, going towards San
Quintin, an entourage was coming from another direction, with military
police, an armoured vehicle and a troop tank.  When the first convoy
passed, made up of 40 vehicles, including tanks, armoured vehicles and
buses, the three military vehicles that had been heading towards Las
Margaritas entered into the Aguascalientes of La Realidad.  Two soldiers
got out in order to watch the convoy go by.  Right away, all of those who
were in the troop vehicle got out in front of the Aguascalientes, 10
soldiers, and began looking and taking videos of the community and of the
Aguascalientes for 2 minutes.
The community advised the observers so that we could come and see, and then
the soldiers hurried back into the vehicles and left.  At 2:00 PM, the same
thing happened:  the convoy and the three vehicles came back on the road to
the Aguascalientes, while the convoy was passing by, headed towards Las
Margaritas.
Fear and tension in the community is very high.
The military convoys are very large and threatening.  Today there were 40
vehicles, with a total of 371 soldiers and 21 military police, in addition
to grenade launchers and other weapons, which they brandished in fron of
the people of the town.  The military aircraft are flying over the
community.
