OCTOBER 12: FLOODNET AGAINST ZEDILLO'S WEB SITE........AGAIN!
10 am - 4 pm (NY Time)
http://www.thing.net/~rdom/ecd/ecd.html

The Electronic Disturbance Theater is calling for supporters of Mexico's
Zapatistas and opponents of Mexico's federal government to again point your
Internet browsers to the FloodNet page and engage in another virtual sit-in
and protest at the web site of Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo on Monday,
October 12, between 10:00 am and 4 pm (New York Time).

[WARNING: Risks are inherent in political action. The Internet is no
exception. We may experience countermeasures directed against FloodNet on
Monday. We will be attentive and waiting to deal with potential
anti-FloodNet actions. We urge you to pay close attention to your
computers. Send notification of any problems immediately to rdom@xxxxxxxxx
AND to beestal@xxxxxxxxxxx]

In the United States, October 12 is known as "Columbus Day" in honor of
Christopher Columbus who supposedly "discovered" America. But October 12 is
also Dia de la Raza. And in recent times has been a day when anti-colonial
forces have converged to demonstrate continued resistance to centuries of
colonization, genocide, and racism in the western hemisphere and throughout
the world.

In Mexico City, this weekend, the National Indigenous Congress meets and
will end their discussions with a demonstration on Monday, October 12, in
Mexico City's Zocalo (central square). Also on Monday other events are
planned in solidarity with Mexico's Zapatistas and indigenous peoples.

In New York City, the NY Zapatistas will host a Festival of Resistance
featuring local activists and artists starting at noon at The Theater For
The New City, 155 First Ave. between 9th and 10th Streets. Three Electronic
Disturbance Theater members will make a short presentation in the mid
afternoon.

The Electronic Disturbance Theater's call for another virtual sit-in and
protest at Zedillo's web site is part of a fall campaign combining virtual
and real protest. On November 22, we will return for an electronic action
aimed at the Department of Defense's "School of the Americas" - notorious
trainers of repressive Latin American military and intelligence forces - at
the same time as a civil disobedience action is taking place on the ground
at the actual military installation.

This week, on Thursday, October 15, three members of the Electronic
Disturbance Theater will make a special presentation about Electronic Civil
Disobedience at Harvard Law School's Berkman Center on Internet and Society
in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

On Monday, October 12, the BBC's Outlook (radio program part of the BBC
World Service) will broadcast a program on "Cyber Protest." The Electronic
Disturbance Theater was interviewed for this story. And finally, the New
York Times is expected this week to feature a story on "Hacktivism," for
which EDT members were also interviewed.

We have just received information that the Austin Public Library (Texas) is
employing Cyber Patrol to block access to FloodNet during our actions. If
you access the Net at a public library and experience similar problems,
please let us know.

THE SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS!

NOTE: We have moved the main Electronic Civil Disobedience page from a New
York University server to The Thing. NYU received a written complaint from
the Defense Information Systems Agency on September 8 and the university
subsequently asked Stefan Wray, a doctoral student at NYU, to remove any
overt mention of FloodNet usage off of the NYU server. For a more detailed
explanationm see: http://www.nyu.edu/projects/wray/ecd.html
