Katha, thank you for your comments. As for now I have nothing
more to say. I would have to study the issue closer before
being able to contribute any more to this thread, and also
to do some more thinking. One of the question I ask myself is
to what degree the situation in the US may partially, if not
wholly differ from that in Norway, and if so, in what way?
I also wonder if we are partially talking of two different kinds
of men/fathers: the statistical ones compared to those who do
not so easily fit into the picture painted by statistics. The
same goes for women/mothers.

Women in the United States" written by Alice Kessler-Harris from
Arbeiderbevegelsens Arkiv (the Archive of the Labor Movement)
here in Oslo, one of the few useful legacies of the social
democratic labor movement.
