AUT: Liverpool dockers
Dear Paul M,
There is in many class struggles where the unions can
bogart the struggle as "the organization" of workers & are
a real trojan horse effect here. The Liverpool fiasco
is the latest ina long- long line of defeats in class combat
in many countries--all with similar scenarios.
Workers are in the unions Maginot Line for their combat
are simply outflanked and routed by a more classconscious
ruling class and state.
Paul M, there is no chinese wall , politically-economically-
tactically beweeen the workers and the unions jail . The
workers can fight --and with valour and much heroism/sacrifice
as in the the Liverpool struggle and so many others, but
as long as the struggle (and the politics/strategy of it
are limited to "new leaderships election" or merely
"democratizing the union" to qualitatively change the
equation in the totality of growth/militancy out of the workers
experience, the workers will still be held back /outflanked
by the unions trojan horse over the conscoiusness
combativity and POLITICS/IDEOLOGY need to be gained for
the workers actions to spread.
And in this period, the lack of the spread of struggle guarantees
union/capitalist management/state laws isolation of the
struggle (whether it be Liverpool-UK, or Staley-Caterpillar-
Detroit News-UPS here in the USA, etc) and this will be so
until new industrial/political class groups are formed by
the workers and activists themselves from below --inside the union
jail and outside of it too.-- which can plan to unleash quick pulverizing
stoppages aginst the bosses --and this must be done and agreed to
by workers even BEFORE the initial actions commence--
otherwise workers are left to fight it out rather helter-skelter,
their forces confused and more easily isolated and demoralized
ane economically squeezed inside out .
This also shows the need for organized POLITICS of the class struggle
as well as ECONOMICS are necessary.
Neil
