AUT: Korea : KCTU re-declares a general strike

 KCTU re-declares a general strike.

 Seoul(Feb 10, Tuesday) -

Korea Confederation of Trade Unions has resolved to upset the
agreements signed a few day ago, to re-organize a general strike
in the 8th delagates congress. The central leaders have resigned
in charge of negotiation and Dan Byoung-Ho, the president of
Democratic Metal Confederation was elected as the chief of
extraordinary committee by a voice vote, who is a leader
symbolising the democratic labor movement since '87 the workers
 Great struggles.

The temporary delagates congress was held in straind atmosphere
throughout on Feb 9 at Yurim House, Seoul and had a heated
discussion to reject the confirmation by standing vote againt
184 among attending 272. The president election was defered
indefinitely. The central headquaters had been occupied by the
workers from Halla heavy industries on the day before, which is
the first event within the democratic labor.

Many workers said that although the agreements has some positive
items, eq. the approval of the teachers' union has being illegal
since '89 and the political activity of trade union, the
Confederation has not to approve to cut off the life of fellow
workers and if the bill on legalisation of layoffs would be passed
in surrounding the illegal layoffs already prevails, mass
unemployment will be accelerated and the labor movement will not
 exist any more.

It was Junhaetu(committee of the arrested, sacked, escaping
workers) and The congress of activist groups in shop floor that
have played a central role in rejecting, which have the strong
antipathy against bureaucratization and reformism and the latter
 comprises major big industries.

It is said that the union capable of going on a strike practically
is not so much and it has no time to orgarnize because the bill
will be soon put on the agenda in the Nation Assembly. But the
550,000 workers in KCTU seems to feel that there is no place to
 step back furder more.
