While agreeing with the end result that software should be free, I disagree
with the above reasoning.  All commodities require a much larger up-front
investment than they do to replicate.  With software the new product comes
more frequently than some, but the point is the same.  The fact that
computer programmers are paid much higher wages than equally necessary
assembly line disc or CD rom makers doesn't change the process of the
creation of surplus value.
