I agree with Ben's interpretation of the facts.
One should also see them this way: Producing software - in my opinion -
generally exceeds the limits of surplus production. The profits of
Microsoft & Co made by selling their software are not the realization
of surplus value that comes out of ever again exploiting labor
producing commodities. The commodity is produced once and then just
copied at extremely low cost. This way labor invested in production is
not at all a measure for the value realized on the markets. Selling it
as a commodity is a social form that is already inadequate.
