[A-List] Economy with IMF Help

From: Patrick Bond
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I gather the World Bank's Harare representative is fairly central to
the post-M plotting for 'donor coordination'... while Zim's debts to the
IMF might preclude a quick loan even if US law were changed to permit it
(currently the IFIs can't loan to Zimbabwe because the US executive
director would veto them, but my understanding is that it is very
unlikely that such funding would be made available anyhow - even without
the US sanctions factor - given the huge arrears owed by Zimbabwe, which
has fallen behind since 1998, even in the wake of US$205 mn in IMF
repayments made by Mugabe in 2005-06)...

^^^
CB: Shouldn't progressives be demanding that the IMF "forgive" Z's debt
, write it off as reparations for colonialism, or have Britain pay it as
reparations for the crimes of Cecil Rhodes and his gang ( with a bunch
of Rhodes scholarships for Zimbabwans to boot) ?

"We demand that Britain pay Z's IMF debt !"
