In the same way, the US would want every liberation movement in Southern
Africa severely weakened if not completely annihilated. Zimbabwe's Zanu-PF,
Namibia's SWAPO, Angola's MPLA, Mozambique's Frelimo, Zambia's ousted UNIP
and South Africa's ANC are all viewed in the same light with Hezbollah,
Hamas and every other popular Islamic group.
Reason lost me there... the Namibians are the most likely southern
African country to host the US military's African Command; Angola's MPLA
does just fine with US oil company bribes (and Condolleezza Rice's name
on a Caltex ship is evidence of cronyism); Frelimo is a prize student of
the Washington Consensus (as was ZanuPF in 1995, earning the highest
award for good performance the World Bank gives: "highly satisfactory");
Zambia's "ousted" UNIP a target? hah; and the ANC? The ANC that is
utterly subservient to Washington on economics, and also on politics for
the most crucial subimperial support functions? That ANC?
For more on Reason Wafawarova, see last week's GreenLeft Weekly statement:
***
Green Left Weekly disassociates itself from Reason Wafawarova, self
styled Zimbabwean political commentator.
When we came recently in contact with Mr Wafawarova he gave the clear
impression that he was a trade union organiser and supporter of a
Zimbabwean socialist organization opposed to Robert Mugabe.
On that basis we agreed to sponsor a forum featuring him as a speaker on
the topic 'Zimbabwe: struggle for freedom'.
It has come to our attention that Mr Wafawarova is an apologist for Mr
Mugabe
While Green Left Weekly defends the national sovereignty of Zimbabwe it
does not support Mugabe's corrupt and brutal dictatorship and the
proposed forum with Reason Wafawarova has been canceled.
