Ukraine to enter NATO in few years - foreign minister

TOKYO - Ukraine will be a member of the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization in a few years, Ukrainian Foreign
Minister Vladimir Ogryzko told a news conference at
the National Press Club in Tokyo on Tuesday.

"In a few years, as I am sure, Ukraine will become a
member of NATO...." Ogryzko said.

He said Ukraine as a sovereign state has the right to
make its choice and decisions, including on the choice
of allies and the joining of NATO.

As for the April 2-4 summit of NATO in Bucharest,
Ogryzko voiced confidence that important decisions
would be made at it regarding providing to Ukraine
transition status, or accession of it to the NATO
membership action plan.

"I have a feeling that this matter will be solved
positively for us. In particular, the content of the
conducted talks with many heads of foreign ministries
of NATO countries testifies to that. I hope for a
positive result, but in any case, whatever the
decision be, our policy of entering NATO remains
unaltered," Ogryzko said.
