Re: [A-List] A War Protest Falls Short in Manhattan

The U.S. would continue to get all the oil it needs (and at a much cheaper price) if it pulled out of the mideast entirely. What is at stake in the mideast, and what has _always_ been at stake there for over a century is _control_ of the oil supply
The west will never get any worthwhile 'deal' on oil from anyone in the middle east, with perhaps the exception of Saudi Arabia, ever again... for as long as the oil lasts, which for Iran, according to THEIR petroleum engineers, the 'peak' is about 40 years from now.

Iraq's supply might last a little longer (assuming demand doesn't rise) because they were operating with antiquated equipment for so long, but never the less, it's part of the same overall geological formation supplying Iran's oil.

...and I'm sure the upgrading of petroleum discovery & extraction technology HAS been taken into account by ALL parties involved in oil exploration, despite 'peak' deniers claims that there is an inexhaustible supply. All the formations have already been discovered, and like all petro-finds, the test hole will mostly be dry, or Natural Gas...

The best hope is that the people of the middle east suffer from the same historical amnesia as people in the west... But there aren't a million dead Americans (mostly civilians) due to the invasion of Iraq.

Kinda hard to forgive and forget... including institutionally.

Just ask everyone in the U.S, civilian and otherwise, willing to commit mayhem worldwide over 3000 dead in the 9/11 tragedy.
