This is simply not true -- and the widespread belief in it interferes
with building as strong a movment as we might. The U.S. would continue
to get all the oil it needs (and at a much cheaper price) if it pulled
out of the mideast entirely. What is at stake in the mideast, and what
has _always_ been at stake there for over a century is _control_ of the
oil supply as well as control of an areat that links almost everything
else. The war in fact is endangering the so-called "suburban way of
life" rather than supporting it.
