I agree, at least, historically. But the thing is, the ones who have same-sex
sex are identified as homo-sexuals in these days, whether in Iran or in the US.
If you have same-sex sex and others define you as home-sexual, it is highly
likely that you define yourself as homo-sexual, too.

By the way, it may be true that the number of those who have same-sex sex in
Iran went down after the 1979 Iranian revolution, because the punishment became
very severe.

The thing is, the punishment is quite severe here in the US, too, although it
takes a different form.

On another note, I remember that Manhattan, New York was a scary place in the
late 1980s and early 1990s, but in these days it is quite safe. Many of the
multiple locks on the doors play the role of ornamentation today. If you drive
most the poor out of the city, put many either in prisons or in mental
institutions, you can do this, of course, at least, for a while.

If you make the comparison on this basis, the US is as bad as Iran and vice
versa. The difference is in the details. What is common to both, and other
countries, is the role the punishment plays. When the social fabric decays as
it is decaying now, punishment becomes the easiest tool to use.

My point is that supporting Iran against the US imperialism is one thing, being
against Bush or Ahmedinejad in their approach to those who have same-sex sex is
another. Of course, I am not talking about any form of rape, be it same-sex or
opposite.

It is interesting to see that neocons suddenly became concerned with gay
rights. Maybe, the US universities should invite Ahmedinejad here to talk more
often for the benefit of concenting persons who have same-sex sex in the US.
