Re: [A-List] (Fwd) Re: Clash of Sexual Civilizations (was Re: ahm
There are many cultural
problems in Iran, some of which the government invents and others of
which it very much aggravates through its censorship, policing, and so
on. The question is how best to remedy them.

Speaking of dissidence and suppression, I can tell you, here in India,
there would be lots of groups happy if Uncle Sam bombed the living
daylights
out of India and destroyed its government. For these groups, who are
suppressed
by the iron fist of the government, the collapse of authority/state
power would be liberation.
Just as Bush ( though elected) can hardly represent the people living
in US, the same goes for the
Indian prime minister and the Iranian President.
The myth of government/democracy ensures that they can act as
spokespersons for their nations,
but these men are just individuals who having come to power, uses
that platform to their liking.
I have had fantasies in which the entire ruling class in US could be
wiped out some way or the other.
As Arundhati Roy said, " I wish we could bomb our way to a feminist
paradise."
You are hopeful of remedies, I'm pessimistic. I am already resigned
to a world of
injustice and hopelessness. In a way, this is a survival mechanism,
( for me) where hoping for the worst,
makes anything else seem better.
Things won't change. We live in a bad world. Try for small
pleasures and little sources of joy.
I just don't want you to get disappointed hoping for a better world !
