[A-List] The Predicate?

CU's Brown faced a most important decision

Let me concede that Churchill's remarks -- coming so soon after
terrorists snuffed out nearly 3,000 lives -- deeply offended many
Americans. I, too, cringed when I first read them.

Admittedly, that's pretty drastic. We certainly wouldn't go that far.
But just how should we respond to offensive statements? And specially,
how should Brown have responded to the Churchill situation?

Response Jim C:

The predicates that a) Ward Churchill's statement about "Roosting Chickens"
and "Little Eichmanns" is "offensive", "opinion" "insensitive to ALL the
victims" etc keeps getting repeated over and over; and b) The other
predicate, that it was his "Little Eichmanns" statement that started (as
opposed to gave cover) for all of this keeps getting repeated over and over
espcially by liberals and House Marxists trying not to lose their
"acceptability" in mainsream academic venues and market niches.

I do not get it. What of Churchill's statements were not provably true and
even beyond opinion protected or otherwise? Is it not true that there is a
destructive force and system in this world known as U.S. Imperialism that
has committed, and are presently committing and are planning to commit the
same crimes--and others-- as what the Nazis were tried for at Nuremberg? Is
it not true that the "Twin Towers" and the Pentagon were built and
showcased as symbols of U.S. Global Imperial Economic, Military, Cultural,
Political and Technological power? Is it not true that Various Forms of
Oppression will inevitably invite, triger and shape various forms of
Resistance(Roosting Chickens)? Is it not true that the U.S. population most
supports imperial adventures when the casualties are distant, abstract and
sanitized and are least likely to support imperial adventures when
blowbacks cause the casualties to be Americans and not to distanct,
abstract and sanitized? Is it not true that SOME killed in the WTC had the
same status--participating in the same types of crimes, including
genocide, through administrative procedures etc just as Eichmann did thus
making them "Little Eichmanns? Did Ward Churchill ever utter even that the
"Little Eichmanns" (but not other victims) deserved what they got, or that
more "Little Eichmanns" deserve to get what these ones got in future 9-11s?
Did he say there should be any kind of celebration or even any form of
support for those who sent the attackers?

Ward Churchill's statement was not anything more than statements of
provable facts and even beyond "protected free speech" or "protected
OPINION". If I say that 2 imperialists + 2 imperialists = 4 imperialists,
that is not "opinion" that is fact. If I say that alleged terrorists (not
considered such when they were on the CIA payroll) whose own self-described
ideology they state to be in long-run opposition to that of their sponsor,
can easily bite the hand that feeds them in the same fashion as a rabid dog
has no "loyalty" to its master and thus can also, like those who did 9-11,
attack the very intereests they were previously paid not to attack, is that
not simply a statement of fact and likely cause-and-effect for which there
are ample examples and for which one need no apology to so state? Is it not
the highest respect for the victims of 9-11 and others like them, rather
than syruppy and solicitous handwringing and covering one's academic ass,
to tell the whole truth, without fear or favor as to what and who really
caused or allowed to happen 9-11 and who and what will likely cause future
9-11s unless exposed and stopped?

And what are the implications if everyone is prescribed or proscribed as to
whose death or neutralization they may or not celebrate or venerate, what
forms of respect or "lack of respect" are acceptable or not acceptable,
what provable truths are mentionable or non mentionable etc?

Think about it.

Jim C.
