Re: [A-List] Sept 22: Encampment to Stop the War/ Sept 29: March onthe White House
What is actually interesting about the TONC proposal is that it puts its proposal forward as a tentative, DRAFT proposal. This is a departure from the way TONC/ANSWER have functioned in the past, which is to get a permit, hold some semi-internal meeting that agrees to their demands, and present the entire package to the public as a take-it-or-leave-it proposition.
If this is truly a draft, and not merely a feint; if it represents a real willingness to negotiate with other forces, including the Democrat-dominated UfPJ, then it is a Good Thing. There has not been a demonstration uniting all antiwar forces since before the war actually began. I suggest that activists on the East Coast try this out to see if there is, in fact, some opportunity for a united fall demonstration. That would be a good place for Leigh Meyers or anyone to raise their differences about timing. I tend to agree that September 29 is too early. Since I am on the West Coast, in Seattle, there isn't much I can do personally to check out the reality of this proposed draft.
