British soil? [was Re: [A-List] UK sub-imperialism: Ascension Island]
I would add that the slight but evident reassertion of Argentina
against UK on the Falklands issue, which is a most striking trait
with the current administration at Buenos Aires (at the very least as
much as US pressure), has helped in this clearing up of the fuzzy
promises at least Ascensión-democratists in London. What do Meg
Thatcher or Mr. Churchill Jr. think of all this?
On a more general level, the very idea that Ascensión is "British
soil", of course, is as untenable (and worthy of unstoppable fits of
laughter) as similar lie on the misnamed Falklands. Ascensión, as
Nkwame Nkrumah explained half a century ago on his "Africa must
unite", is an African dependency that has come to act as a faraway
outpost of imperialism, and African peoples to the South of the
Sahara (at least) should de-Balkanize themselves in order to reassert
their oceanic might against these advanced stations of imperialist
warlordism based in London and Washington.
BTW: "de-Balkanize" is an intentionally vague way to put things. It
does not necessarily have to do with "socialist regimes", though it
is quite hard to see any road towards this goal that skirts the
struggle for socialism.
However, and as a mind experiment if you like, one should state that
even the -utterly improbable if not straightforwardly ludicrous-
eventuality that an "expansionist and imperialist joint South African
Black & White Bourgeoisie" managed to unify by the force of economic
might, arms and diplomacy -even thuggery- these peoples (thus
fulfilling the goal Nkrumah put forth) would menace British power on
Ascensión, thus showing that it is menacing the whole imperialist
system as a whole: the Golden Billion Club is a closed institution.
