U.S. DETONATED NEUTRON BOMBS: IRAQI COMMANDER
Monday, April 16, 2007
BAGHDAD - A former commander of Iraq's Republican Guard
accused the U.S. military of detonating neutron bombs over
Iraqi airspace.
Saifeddin Fulayh Hassan Taha al-Rawi made his comments via
video broadcasted by the Al-Jazeera news channel a week
after the fourth anniversary of the fall of Baghdad.
"The enemy used neutron and phosphorus weapons against
Baghdad airport... there were bodies burnt to their bones,"
he said. "The bombs annihilated soldiers but left the
buildings and infrastructure at the airport intact."
In all, about 2,000 Iraqi troops "fought until they were
martyred" before the airport was finally captured on April
9, 2003, said al-Rawi.
According to experts, a neutron bomb is a thermonuclear
weapon. While its blast is negligible, it still releases
large amounts of radiation that destroys human tissue.
Rumors of such a blast have been circulating for years.
This is perhaps the first instance of a high-ranking Iraqi
soldier commenting on this issue.
The Pentagon placed al-Rawi as number 14 on its most wanted
list. In addition, the U.S. military has put out a $1
million bounty on his head.
A few days prior to al-Rawi's statement, The Iconoclast
published an interview with Captain Eric H. May, commander
of Ghost Troop, entitled "Battle of Baghdad Cover-up - Four
Years Later," in which Capt. May said, "The truth is that
the battle started April 5, the night that Baghdad Bob said
that they had counterattacked us at the Baghdad Airport and
there was a sustained fight that went on for several hours.
The best evidence that I have from international sources,
scientific sources, is that our position was becoming
untenable at the Baghdad Airport and we used a neutron
warhead, at least one. That is the big secret of Baghdad
Airport."
May, a former intelligence and public affairs officer in the
military, said, "The biggest story of the war became a
non-event when the truth of the matter was that it was
simply too bloody an event to report." May says that the
cover-up played a part in persuading the American public to
forfeit "thinking for themselves" when it came to this war.
