The declarations of evil have already started at VT, and from people
of colour apparently, such as Nikki Giovanni (a nom de plume that
alludes to Baldwin's 'Giovanni's Room':
I do remember her at VT when I was there, but she was not really an
academic, but rather more poet in residence. I remember her lamenting
that the basketball star on the team at the time had a shameful name
that reflected white racism against African Americans, until Bimbo
Coles told the student newspaper that 'Bimbo' was an African name.
Guess she should have stuck to surnames like 'Coles'.
