I think half the US is on something that is psycho-active. I thought
the idea of the meds was to get back to some sort of 'normal' life.
But can it really alleviate anomic depression?
And then there is the mass hysteria--to which the US is so prone. I
think the period late 2001-now will go down as one big mass psychosis
in the US. The VT massacre will only add to it. We'll be seeing SWAT
teams on every campus. Students will be turned in to the authorities
for 'acting strange'. Everyone who doesn't fit in will be pathologized
as a potential mass killer. And poor Blacksburg, VA. From relative
obscurity to the town that gave the US its most prolific serial
killer--Henry Lee Lucas--and the site of its largest mass murder.
The media is already on it, and as I mentioned to one of the college
students I work with, the '420' celebration at UCSC will be more
'secure' too!
No outsiders. No matter that the students themselves are
'stressed-beyond-recognition'.
> I am a graduate student at VT. This has been quite a surreal and
grim morning for us all. We had a shooter on campus on the first day
of campus and now this. We have been under a lot of stress lately, as
there have already been several bomb threats over the past few weeks,
even as early as Friday. I do not know if the threats are related to
today's shooting.
I still can't believe this has happened.

Surveillance cameras will be strategically placed, and if they find
one, it'll bring the s-hammer down on the organizers.
It's worth noting that much of the leadership who cultivated
anti-war/class activism among students at colleges in the 60s were off
campus activists or graduates without current student ID.
At this juncture in history there are schools experimenting with
retinal scanning/rfid-ing students... no chip implants... yet....

UCSC, K-12 schools say they're prepared for violence
from Santa Cruz Sentinel News

SANTA CRUZ â Should a gunman go on a rampage at UC Santa Cruz,
university officials would e-mail students, staff and faculty about
the situation, post emergency bulletins on UCSC Web sites, use a
special system to call all campus phones with a programed message and
make emergency broadcasts on KCSC, the university radio station.
