[A-List] Hugo and Mahmoud

The WSJ ran an editorial on Wednesday January 17, 2007 entitled Hugo and Mahmound, in which Hugo Chavez and all other Latin American leftist government leaders such as Daniel Ortaga of Nicaragua, Ecuador's Rafael Correa, Bolivia's Evo Morales and of course Cuba, were listed as not only a menace to the well being of their people but also a threat to US security interests in the Western hemisphere and beyond, based on recent the diplomatic offensive of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran aimed at these governments. The editorial named Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut, an announced presidential candidate for 2008, Congressman Bill Delahunt of the 10th District of Massachusetts who praised Venezuela's offer of cut rate oil for poor US citizens, and Jimmy Carter for calling Chavez as democratically elected leader, as enablers of Chavez repression. Again, socialism in developing nations is condemned as human rights violation which of course will stimulate a chorus of attacks from the US left. Patrick Bond is probably burning midnight oil composing polemics defending democracy against these tyrants.
