[A-List] Re: Escalation Against Iran The Pieces Are Being Put in

RM
(perhaps if the so-called left would have listened and acted on information
which people like Juan Cole presented -- such as explaining that Ahmadinejad
never did call for Israel to be "wiped off the map". . . and this this was
just so much western propaganda, then we might have collectively bought more
time to stop escalation of the present war. It seems, however, that the
left in many ways preferred to either be totally mute about such shameful
propaganda repeated ad nauseum in the mainstream press (and also the
not-so-mainstream press), or it actually assisted with the job of "softening
up" and demonizing Ahmadinejad instead, and now this is where we're at. As
Martin Luther King stated April 4, 1967, at Riverside Church in New York
City, "A time comes when silence is betrayal." Well, IMHO, the so-called
left has shamefully betrayed Iran by remaining silent in the face of
revelations by people like Juan Cole)>>

Seems to imply the 'left' has some sort of political clout I sure as
heck don't know about. Cole repeats a lot of the very propaganda you
talk about. He is just another mouthpiece in the propaganda mix. For
example, the 'Iraq is in a civil war' line.
Much of the left as I see it on these sort of lists is simply anathema
to any Islamists, even those who openly fight against US imperialism,
though this often overlaps with covert zionists who parade around as
leftists.

I think this 'run up to invade' Iran is also just so much blow. The US
couldn't invade Iran if it wanted to . Sure the 'New Lebanon' plan
failed because of Hizbollah's success against the Israelis in combat
last summer. And Israel and the US are smarting for another round of
mass death. But I agree with Stan Goff on this one--just as I also
said the US would pretty much limit its involvement in Somalia with
aerial bombardments in support of the proxies. So I wouldn't be
surprised if there were large air strikes against Iran this year, but
that would also carry a big impact in Lebanon and Iraq. Most
importantly it would undercut any chance the 'reform' opposition
elements had to somehow get back into some of the government in Iran.
If any country was smarting for US military action you would think it
was North Korea, and yet it is pretty much 'regime change' status quo
there too.
