Rice Escalates Attacks on Iran

Washington, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) US
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
increased her attacks on Iranian authorities
Thursday, describing the country as the
"central bank" of terrorism.

Just a few days before starting a tour of the
Middle East, the top US diplomat raised the
temperature of hostility toward Iran.

At a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, Rice also targeted Syria and the
Palestinian organization Hamas.

Without presenting any evidence to justify
her assault, Rice told lawmakers that "It is
not only the Iranian nuclear program, but
also its support of terrorism in the world.
They are, in fact, the central bank of
terrorism."

On Wednesday, she announced Washington
plans to request more funds and increase
propaganda broadcasts aimed at Iranian
territory.

The White House has assumed the right to
launch TV and radio programs against
other nations, either from the US or third
countries" territories, in violation of
international law.

Cuba Expresses Solidarity with Iran

Havana, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban
National Assembly President Ricardo
Alarcon underlined Cuban solidarity with
Iran in rejecting the campaign and threats
against its proposed domestic nuclear
program.Rice Escalates Attacks on Iran

Alarcon met with Iranian president of the
Islamic Consultative Assembly, Gholam
Ali Haddad Adel, who is honoring an
official invitation from the Cuban
Parliament.

No one in the world has the right to monopolize
an energy source or deny a people the chance to
use nuclear energy for peaceful ends, said Alarcon.

He called aggression in these circumstances
"unacceptable", especially from a country
like the US whose weapons of mass
destruction have targeted civilians from other
countries.

Iran has suffered imperialist provocation
and siege, like Cuba, for the last 47 years
hence both countries take similar positions
at international forums and have excellent
bilateral ties.

Haddad Adel voiced the Iranian people"s
respect for President Fidel Castro and his
Revolution, particularly his firm principles,
as he has never been misled by enemy
handouts and has advanced in different
fields.

The visitor brought greetings and a friendly
message from President Hahmud
Ahmadineyad for his Cuban counterpart and
the Cuban people.

Haddad Adel toured the Center for Genetic
Engineering and Biotechnology where he was
welcomed by its director Luis Herrera.
