This is enough for me, whether Patrick Bond likes it or not.
The enemy of my enemy (US) is my own enemy.
I try to be a good dialectics, so that I try to put the whole
scenario in front of my eyes when I think of events on the world
scene.
And this always begins with Lenin's question:
"Who is the imperialist and who is not, in Myanmar?" Due to many
reasons too long to broach here, I dismiss even the hint that China
can be called imperialist. So that this settles the issues with me,
for the time being.
The US is my main enemy. The US is China's opponent in Myanmar. The
Myanmar regime (as Patrick would call it) or administration (as
perhaps Henry would call it) supports China and is supported by
China. Whatever weakens the US strengthens me (for example: the
current series of events in Latin America could not have been
expected without the success of the Iraqi national movement against
the piratical invasion by USUK).
And BTW: sorry to tell you, Patrick, but my own experience in Latin
America turns "Democratic" oppositions to strong (even heavy-handed)
regimes in the South suspicious. According to our experience,
_whenever_ a "Democratic" group appears it is a pro-imperialist
group.
This does not minimize the struggle for _democracy within the
national liberation front_, but this is a different issue.
Under conditions of global attack on the sovereignty of non-
imperialist countries, every country in the 3rd. World becomes a
garrison state of sorts.
Look at Argentina today: all the anti-Kirchner gang is already
branding him a "Fascist" (and believe me, Kirchner is mild as little
lamb as compared to what _I_ would do to them). And, of course, the
coallition begins to call itself "Democratic".
Best,
