[A-List] Myanmar
As for me, I am most interested in knowing what is it that goes on in
Myanmar (not Burma).
Western dominated sources have provided a deep cone of darkness on
the place, in L.America at least, which of course makes me suspicious
that some good things are taking place there.
And, let us say it from the very beginning: I won't buy any "Chinese
imperialist" story about in Myanmar. In my own view of things
Chinese imperialism does not exist, nor can exist. Not currently, at
least. Nor will it exist on my book until it can be demonstrated
that the social structure of China equates that of any First World
country which China, and not always for its best, is far from.
And this is valid to any predication of the word "imperialism" on
large countries that don't belong to the G-7 and environs. I don't
even believe in the possibility of a Russian imperialism. Brazilian,
Argentinean, Indonesian, etc., imperialisms have always appeared to
me as pro-imperialist red-herrings which served the interest of
splitting the Third World in minute pieces.
In the same way, I would not accept the talk about Venezuelan
imperialsm or --South African imperialism! Even "sub"-imperialism.
On this, too, Patrick and yours truly differ and there is no means to
put us in agreement.
