thanks, Tony.  I think you're right on several counts.  My error was
to take ethanol production as a specific technology -- i.e. made from
corn.  the current system, as I understand it, is a net energy loser.
If the new govt funding is to scale this project up, then it's just a
scam.

If it's to find something better, well then, go for it.  I, for one,
would find it particularly entertaining if they discovered hemp oil
was the way to go.  Just imagine the cognitive dissonance.
