Re: [A-List] William Engdahl? - Inquisition by evil gossip

Dear Sabri,
Re my friend Bill Totten's observations on oil, I prefer to characterize the phenomenon as "auto-intoxication."
The oil and auto companies have joined together for over half a century in destroying public transportation and maximizing the use of oil, increasing society's overhead tremendously.
Most economists simply project existing trends into the future ad infinitum. Bill is showing that the trends cannot continue this way. As the Shah of Iran once said, oil should be used for petrochemicals, not as fuel for cars.
The link between Bill's oil-pessimism and world politics -- including your neighbors in the Near East -- is provided by Bill Engdahl's book whereby the U.S. is trying to put the screws on the rest of the world by monopolizing oil.
My suspicion is that the second stage of this will be to claim to increase fuel (pretending that it will bring down the price) by implementing the notorious Carter Strategy -- development of the colorado and Athabasca tar sands. This uses so much water that it will turn large chunks of agricultural regions into a desert, forcing up food prices.
All this will increase Ricardian rent -- not by nature, but by manipulation of global markets.
That's why events over here affect Turkey, Sabri. Why don't Europe, Turkey, Russia and other countries create an alternative world order? It is as if Americans are the only ones playing the game of international diplomacy. Under these conditions, of course we focus on America -- not because we're Americans necessarily, but simply because that's where the action seems to be these days, almost uniquely.
How can you plan on Turkey's future without taking into account America's plans for the world, including Turkey?
Good luck in creating an alternative.

      Michael
