Re: [A-List] Interesting Article - Canadian Perspective

"...In reality, virtually every region of the country [Canada] and every
major industry....depends on US demand for its prosperity."

It's not actually anywhere near as bleak as that, for contrary to the
corporatist / continentalist (integrationist comprador) propaganda that is
constantly plyed in the Canadian corporate press, over 80% of our economic
output is produced in Canada and consumed in Canada by Canadians. The press
here delights in reporting this statistic as its mirror opposite. (They
consistently 'miss' the fact that their trade accounting measures look at
*gross export sales* rather than the *value-added output* of our economy.
Thus, if exports were measured on a value-added basis - reflecting the value
of all the imports that go into their manufacture - then our exports would
be seen to represent a much smaller figure than that used by those elites
here who are constantly clamouring for Canada to kowtow to US trade and
security interests - in fear of US retaliatory trade actions).

..This is not to say, of course, that a recession/depression in the US
wouldn't have a profound impact on Canada...but not like McLeans is wont to
make out.
