[A-List] UK politics: the ego denied landing rights
On Tuesday I wrote:
The high profile of Robert Kilroy-Silk boosted the UKIP in time for the last
Euro parliamentary election. But now, with a proper general election in the
offing, how convenient of Kilroy-Silk to demand the leadership of his new
party only to be denied it and so he flounces out, announcing the founding
of a new party, "Veritas", supposedly standing for truth in politics:

...thereby further splitting the anti-Tony vote and rendering all three
anti-Tony parties hopelessly at sea. Kilroy-Silk need not be a stooge for
state forces -- as with all politicians ambition can be manipulated and his
track record suggests/screams an alarming lack of modesty and proportion.

It seems that Kilroy's ambitions know no bounds, and that his wrecking of
the UKIP is mere coincidence, albeit a very happy one for those concerned
merely to deny opposition to Tony any plausibility whatsoever.
Party snubs Kilroy-Silk approach
DOUGLAS FRASER, Scottish Political Editor
The Herald, January 27 2005
The Lanarkshire millionaire who set up his own party to contest the Scottish
elections in 2003 has rebuffed an attempt by Robert Kilroy-Silk to take over
the organisation and its leadership.
Robert Durward, owner of Cloburn Quarry near Lanark, was the moving force
behind the Scottish People's Alliance, which stood with two former Tory MSPs
at the Holyrood election and spent £490,000 of his money, but fared poorly.
It has now been renamed the New Party of Britain, and was one of three
fringe parties on the political right which the former talkshow host has
approached in an attempt to take on the UK Independence Party.
Mr Durward said: "He's like a cuckoo looking for a nest.
"He has destroyed 10 years of the UKIP's hard work. He's not going to
destroy others, but he is going to wreck the Eurosceptic cause."
