Hi Maggie.

There's a full-blown purge going on under Brother Goss over at the
Agency - an agency that has been sacrificed repeatedly over the last
three years every time the administration and the Pentagon got exposed.
And the struggle between the CIA and Pentagon has been going on for
almost two decades, as I was saying all the way back in 1997, having
been privy to some of this stuff while still on active duty with Special
Operations.

The saying goes... the Agency never forgets.  Since Hersh published, we
have seen the exposure of Donny Rumsfeld's little alter-agency,
illegally operating I might add outside Congressional oversight, but
don't expect the jellyfish Dems to do more than fume for a few days,
convene a committee or two, then let it go.

The real political fracture lines, I suspect, are a good deal deeper and
are indicative of two distinct ruling class political epistemologies
that are contending for hegemony right now in response to a systemic
crisis that neither really knows how to handle... the one this list has
attempted since the Crashlist days to get its head around.

describe this crisis.

Just got back into town myself and I have no clue what's up or down with
Hersch or whether he's wittingly or unwittingly being manipulated by
someone
at a high level.  As you point out, this is a deliberate leak, which is
really what I was suggesting.  The question is by whom and for what
purpose?
Is it to pre-empt an attack on Iraq by disclosing the real plan so or is
it
just a red herring?

As you said, if higher ups want to leak information, he's the go-to guy.
If there's a power struggle going on - between whom is the power
struggle?
