Re: [A-List] Defining 'terrorism' is harder than you'd think
While I understand the point Michael
is making here , I would say that any reporter covering Palestine who has
not been accused of being an "anti-semite" is a contemptible hack. In this
context, how could the label be other than a badge of honour?
-----
That's precisely what is required -- context. Carelessly flinging around
such epithets is dangerous in terms of how this group (including especially
you) is understood and who is thereafter attracted to it. And careless
reference to "the Jews" as if they are a monolithic interest group is as
inappropriate as any other accusatory or hostile reference to an ethnic
group. That's why I asked Melvin to clarify his comments concerning "the
Japanese".
If it is so easy to see beyond the conveniently misleading Shi'ite/Sunni
dualisms employed in the mainstream media with respect to Iraq, it should be
as easy to distinguish between Jewish people and zionists. In my book there
is no accusation of racism that can be worn as a badge of honour, whatever
the context. But I will take it as a badge of honour if some apologist for
the occupation of Palestinian land and the oppression of the Palestinian
people regards me as scum, which is what we are really talking about here.
Michael
