Since your response prove that there is some interest among some leftists on the issue of democracy, I would propose here a question for which I cannot find persuasive answers, that is: why US radical left (even Chomsky) seems very much uninterested or negative about questioning the official story on 9-11?  I tried to open discussions about it on other leftist US lists (psn, lbo-talk) more than a year ago, and had some unpleasant debate with Berlet himself, but in the end the issue was dismissed because it was perceived as suitable to divide the left and/or being highjacked by some fascist conspiracy theorist nuts, and above all, not sensible to structural social issues and aspects (the classic Berletian argument).

But at a closer review no one of these arguments seems persuading: disclosing how a formally democratic system can be controlled even creating enemies or fake menaces in order to defend powerful organized interests seems quite leftist and much suitable to gain a huge popular support (therefore politically convenient), with potential consequences similar to what is called radicalization, and there is no reason why 9-11 should not be seen in context of socio-economic and political structural inequalities and conflicts (I would say the opposite is much more likely, while the official story is a "conspiracy theory").

Anyway, here in italy we seem to have a similar problem from several years, with our parlamentary leftist opposition always ready to grant "legitimacy" to the ludicrous criminal monopolist and media tycoon which is officially our "premier" and his mafia-fascist gang, up to he point of trying to change our constitution with him, so this is not to criticize, just looking for explanations.

Thanks for posting this: It's rather illustrative of how stupidly
