US Military Convoy Enters Fallujah

A U.S. Marine convoy in central Iraq has entered the
center of Fallujah for the first time in weeks, in a
test of a shaky truce in the Sunni-controlled city.
Marines in armored vehicles rolled in Monday,
accompanied by Iraqi security forces that U.S.
military officials have placed in charge of
maintaining order in the Fallujah.

The commander of the First Marine Division, Major
General James Mattis, led the convoy, and met with the
mayor. There were no reports of confrontations with
insurgents.

Comment:

A one-time patrol was part of the original agreement between the
Coalition forces and General Saleh. It was described, probably in an
article forwarded by Rick, as a one-time occurrence that would not be
repeated, in other words, a Potemkin patrol, and it also needs to be
said that Saleh's replacement has also indicated that Coalition forces
will not be allowed in Fallujah, this one patrol notwithstanding.
