Re: [A-List] Re: R2I Problems Arise in the Hands of theUntrainedTorturer
The stories are incredible, shocking, disorientating and disgusting
and so are the pictures. They are intended to be. But various forms of
rape and other assaults are going on officially and unofficially.
How much is official, and how much is part of a system to which it is
convenient for Bush and Blair to turn a blind eye, could be a matter
of fine discussion and to a certain extent will have to be a matter of
fine discussion. Clearly some soldiers of both sexes, and some sub
contractors got the message and played their parts with creative
improvisation, and recorded them digitally for fun, like when the
naked
doggy fell over.
It is part of the hegemonic imposition of power without legitimacy and
accountability. Abuse is part of the system.

Not in any way trying to mount a defense of imperialism or its
military
forces, but I'm wondering where Guantanamo procured prostitutes.
Surely
they wouldn't risk Cubans, who might well carry the news out of the
camps. Actually, ANY prostitute might carry information beyond the
camps. This scenario is just incredibly hard for me to imagine, given
the obsessive operational security at Gitmo. Soldiers, at least, are
required to sign all kinds of non-disclosure statements threatening
them
with ten years in prison for violations, and they remain inside the
offending institution.
