Subject: "Waging Peace", a new doc from Empowerment Project
Hi all,
Democracy University is using "Waging Peace," the Empowerment Project's
latest documentary and they have offered it to us for fundraising and to
inspire and re-energize our communities. We can raise funds through
house parties, salon showings, community events, and other venues, with
discussions and action plans to follow.
This video captures the excitement and hope of February 15, 2003 - the
world's largest recorded protest in history - and focuses on how we can
maintain and utilize the energy of the peace movement to push past corporate
and
government power so the voice of the people will be heard. This is an
exciting film, it's a bit like having a cheerleading team reminding you that
there is a
larger community in the world that still resists the policies of this
administration. "Waging Peace" premiered at the Global Peace Film
Festival, was shown at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and
recently won the Burke Award for Best documentary.
This film features many dynamic speakers including: Archbishop Desmond
TuTu, Harry Belafonte, Susan Sarandon, Angela Davis, Pete Seeger, Holly
Near and leaders within the movement such as Leslie Cagan, Jamie Vasquez,
Medea Benjamin, Reverend Graylan Hagler, Phyllis Bennis, and many more.
"Waging Peace" documents the emergence and evolution of the World Peace
movement with people from around the globe speaking against the war,
speaking for peace.
You can purchase "Waging Peace" for $19 by visiting the Empowerment
Project's website at http://empowermentproject.org/order-du.html, and a
portion of that will be donated to us. If you wish to purchase by mail
with check or money order please use the mail-in form on the website.
Two other Empowerment Project full-length films, the Academy Award
winning "The Panama Deception" and "Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra
Affair" are both highly relevant to what is happening today. The lies
being told today are the same lies told by the same people about the
invasion of Panama and in the Iran-Contra affair. These are the same
players manipulating the people of the world again. Learn from history what
is happening today. The facts are clear and
correct, this is the actual truth.
The Panama Deception - Made all the more timely by the current war on
terrorism. This film documents the untold story of the December 1989
invasion of Panama, the events which led to it, the excessive force used,
the
enormity of death and destruction, and the devastating aftermath. -
1992 Format: VHS
Running Time: 91 min
Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair - Strikingly relevant to current
events, this is an investigative documentary about world-wide covert
activities backed by the U.S. Government: activities that were NOT revealed
by the
Iran-Contra Hearings of the U.S. Congress. - 1988 Format: VHS
Running Time: 72 min
These films and others are offered to Democracy University supporters on
a special ordering page: http://empowermentproject.org/order-du.html
Sincerely,
Democracy University
