Moscow hosts meeting of high-ranking CIS, CSTO
military

Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan.]
-The high-ranking military intend to discuss a plan
for the joint activity in the sphere of operative and
combat training of the CIS peacekeeping forces in
Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
-Also considered will be the preparation for the
exercises codenamed ?Frontier-2004? to be conducted by
the CSTO Collective rapid reaction forces in the
Central Asian Region jointly with troop units from the
member-countries of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization.
MOSCOW, March 16 (Itar-Tass) -Moscow is hosting a
joint meeting of the committees of the chiefs of the
general staffs of the armed forces of the
member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent
States (CIS) and of the Collective Security Treaty
Organization (CSTO).
The participants in the meeting are discussing aspects
of the development of military and
military-technological interaction within the
framework of these international organizations. Chief
of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces
General Anatoli Kvashnin is chairing the meeting.
The high-ranking military intend to discuss a plan for
the joint activity in the sphere of operative and
combat training of the CIS peacekeeping forces in
Abkhazia and South Ossetia. They also plan to consider
the possibility of further unification of a number of
laws on defense and security matters.
In the CSTO format, the meeting will discuss plans for
operative and combat training in 2005 and a number of
issues pertaining to the upgrading of the CSTO
military component up to the year 2010 and beyond.
Also considered will be the preparation for the
exercises codenamed ?Frontier-2004? to be conducted by
the CSTO Collective rapid reaction forces in the
Central Asian Region jointly with troop units from the
member-countries of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization.
The CSTO Joint Headquarters will hold an operative
meeting within the framework the Moscow session of the
Committee of the chiefs of the general staffs.
Participants in the session will familiarize
themselves with advanced samples of weapons and
military hardware.
The Command of the Collective rapid reaction forces
has recommended this regional military organization to
add the new weaponry to its tables of equipment.
