[A-List] China-US tensions: goodbye Windows?
This looks like the sort of venue where a regional response to the growing
aggression exhibited by the US with respect to intellectual property in the
IT industry might be formulated.

China, S Korea and Japan kick off IT summit
Asia Times, March 17 2004
SEOUL - The Ministry of Information and Communication said today it will
host a working-level meeting on information technology (IT) cooperation
between South Korea, China and Japan in Seoul this week.
The meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday is the first to be held following the
three nations' agreement in September last year to form a working-level
committee for further cooperation in seven IT fields.
Four areas to be discussed at this week's meeting include next-generation
Internet networks, information security and protection, next-generation
mobile communications and telecom policy, the ministry said.
The remaining three issues - open-source software, digital broadcasting and
the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games - will be addressed at the next meeting
planned to be held in Beijing next month, according to the ministry.
Some of the issues from this week's meeting will be further dealt with at a
ministerial meeting of the three nations, slated for July in Hokkaido,
Japan, the ministry added.
The discussions at the meeting will also focus on mapping out cooperative
measures to standardize IT technologies and to effectively guard against
trans-border problems such as spam mail and misuse of information over the
Internet, according to the ministry.
