Might this have something to do with the inter-imperialist rivalry attending
Latin America, and specifically Argentina? Of the foreign investors burnt by
Rodriguez Sáa in 2001 it was the French and Spanish who "suffered" most,
explaining perhaps the unusually laissez faire approach adopted by the US.
It would be interesting to know more about how Spanish capital is reacting
to this, and to the apparent failure of Spanish state to reap the rewards of
its Atlanticism.
