Help Us Stop
Wal-Mart
One of the most important social justice battles
in many years is taking place right now in Los Angeles. And we need your
help.
Wal-Mart has announced plans to build 40
supercenters in California, with one of the first slated for Inglewood. These
massive outlets have a devastating impact on communities, driving down wages and
pushing out local businesses. Cities around the country bear witness to the
Wal-Mart effect--good jobs replaced by poverty-wage jobs, full-time workers
resorting to public assistance, thriving business districts replaced by empty
storefronts.
The Wal-Mart effect extends far beyond our
borders, to factories in Asia and Latin America where workers produce Wal-Mart
merchandise in exchange for sweatshop wages. Here at home, Wal-Mart has amassed
one of the worst civil rights records in the nation and has a notorious
zero-tolerance policy for union organizing.
For more information, visit the Stop Wal-Mart Campaign Web Page Wal-Mart Campaign Tell a friend about the Stop Wal-Mart Campaign Inglewood is now ground zero for Wal-Mart's
expansion into Los Angeles. LAANE and local Inglewood activists have filed a
lawsuit to stop a Wal-Mart sponsored ballot initiative that would allow the
company to build a supercenter in Inglewood with no
environmental review or local government oversight.
But lawsuits are expensive and we are fighting
one of the richest companies in the world. We need the
help of 1,000 friends making donations of $25 or $50 to carry through
this legal effort and conduct a grassroots public education
campaign.
Wal-Mart has already spent hundreds of thousands
of dollars on its ballot initiative. Our court date is this month and we need
your help now to continue this fight. Please make your contribution to the fight
to stop Wal-Mart today. Click on this link to make a donation. (LAANE is
a nonprofit organization and contributions to LAANE are tax
deductible.)
Thank you in advance for your vital contribution
in the fight to stop Wal-Mart. Please tell a friend.
