[A-List] Hudson Super Imperialism Seminar

Michael:

> It sounds like a conflict of interest for me.

It does not sound that way to me Michael.

What interest do you have? To sell more of your book?

Well!

If this is your interest, you made a big mistake by
naming your book "Super Imperialism" in the first
place. You should have named it "How to make more
money from market inefficiencies" or some such
thing!Even a title such as "Irrational Exuberance"
could have produced better "returns".

But a title like "Super Imperialism", or any title
that includes the word "imperialism", cannot sell well
in these days. You should have named it "Empire", or
some such thing, and paid respect to institutions such
as the IMF and World Bank and even the UN as potential
saviours of our future, not to mention the US and its
great liberal democracy, of course.

After all, if you work hard at it, you may even be
able to reform them, as some claim, who knows?

> Inasmuch as I have a vested interest, it's not

It is up to you. I will not insist. I remember my
lovely grandmother's insisting when I was a little boy
that our guests at dinner should eat some more when
they were full up to their throats after eating some
good food she had cooked.

But, there comes a point after which you do not want
to eat anymore and my grandmother was unable to see
that. Part of the culture, I suppose.

In any event, my suggestion was motivated by my past
experiences. For example, on PEN-L, there is this
seminar by Henwood on his own book:

http://csf.colorado.edu/seminars/sustecon/Henwood.aug98

It was not a very successful one but nevertheless
nobody accused Doug of promoting his own interests.

Anyway!

Up to you!

I will not repeat my suggestion again, especially
after observing so many times as a kid how our guests
at dinner felt when my grandmother had kept insisting
that they should eat some more of her food when they
had already eaten as much as they could have.

Best,

Sabri
