You need not be a resident of California to believe that Peter Camejo should be included in the upcoming debates, please distribute this as widely as possible:
In a situation similar to the 2002 campaign, the L.A. Times is proposing a
debate for the major recall candidates, but excluding Green Party candidate
Peter Miguel Camejo. The LA Times/CNN debate is tentatively scheduled for
Sept. 30.
The Times/CNN debate sets what Green party members say is an arbitrary
polling figure as their criteria for inviting candidates, in spite of what
Greens say is the overwhelming majority support for including all three of
the major California political parties in debates.
The California League of Women Voters has lent its support to two other
debates that have so far excluded the Green Party: Oct. 2 (co-sponsored by
NBC4 and Telemundo) and Oct. 4 (San Diego Union Tribune and KPBS).
The Oct. 2 event is co-sponsored by the California League of Women Voters,
while the Oct. 4 debate is co-sponsored by the league's San Diego County
chapter.
The Camejo campaign is preparing to launch a
national Web-based
letter-writing campaign to protest the exclusion.
The campaign's Web site,
http://www.votecamejo.org, will provide protest
letters that can be quickly sent to sponsoring media organizations, as well
as the League of Women Voters.
