COMMUNIQUE OF THE FARC-EP

The FARC-EP denounce the following before the national and international community:

1. It is false that our guerrilla units are responsible for the abduction of eight foreign tourists in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta last weekend.

2. The state terrorism operations against the tourists in the Sierra Nevada, and against the civilian population of the whole country, are carried out by Colombian military intelligence for the purpose of showing results to Mr. Alvaro Uribe Velez through the mounting of a rescue by force operation that will leave the eight foreigners alive or dead.

3. They are doing this as well with the intention of diverting the criticisms President

Uribe is receiving from the whole world for his verbal aggression and threats

against the NGO?s and other organizations that are formulating serious objections

to his fascist policy of Total War and Democratic Security. At the same time,

they are trying to intimidate those who are calling upon the people to abstain from

voting in the neo-liberal uribist Referendum.
