Re: [A-List] Kurds

Henry, and Nestor;

The sole purpose of my post was to
question the use of the term "treason"
to describe the actions of the Kurdish tribes, or rather, the political
organizations based on them.

I am in agreement with all the practical points that each of you have made
concerning the role of nationalism in the anti-imperialist struggle.
I don't, however, think that "treason"is a term that adds anything
except fuzzy emotion to an understanding of what is occurring
within the territory designated "Iraq"
since 1922.
If there were no oil in the North of Iraq, Churchill would no doubt have
been content for Turkey to continue to rule it.
And the Kurds would be someone else's "traitors."

I doubt if the Arabs of Iraq think of the Kurds in this way. Past allies,
current enemies, perhaps future allies again, but traitor has no real
application.

Bob
